| It is really sad to see that these types of actions are still taken: "BEIJING — A school employee in Sichuan Province has been ordered to a labor camp for a year for taking photographs of schools that collapsed in the powerful May 12 earthquake and posting them on the Internet, a human rights group reported Wednesday." The worker, Liu Shaokun, 54, was detained at Guanghan Middle School on June 25, according to the group, Human Rights in China, which is based in New York. Family members informed the group that Mr. Liu had posted the photographs online; that has not been independently verified. Yes and the world is supporting China and their totalitarian regime through supporting the Olympic games. But really it's all about money now isn't it. If the US and other western countries boycotted the Olympics as they did for the Moscow Olympics they might loose an opportunity to open more WalMarts etc. Heavens forbid!!

That said, one old sage piece of advice says to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. What do you think is going to happen to China after years of close association with the"outside" world? Insular countries are that way to preserve the status quo in thier cultural and political climate. Interaction with more open societies invariably cause insular societies to slowly change to meet the values of the outside world. At some point an acceptable compromise will be met but it takes time.
