For a long time now I have wanted to work with really large negatives and make contact prints. I havent been able to afford it until now. I think I will choose the 12x20" format, Chamonix has a "reasonable" priced camera, with 2 film-holders, in this format, I think it was about $4500.

I see that over on the a-site there is a used Lotus 12x20 (with a 8x20 reduction back) for 12.000$, and that is completely out of my league.

I will of course take a look on the different sites with classified ads, but are there other Camera models than the Chamonix that I should consider, if I want to buy a new one?

What lenses on the market has an image circle large enough to cover this format?

At the moment Chamonix is the best deal for the camera and holders, but I think they won't stay at these good prices much longer so you should strike while the iron is hot..

You might also want to look at Richard Ritter's camera, it is very light but it does not come with holders.

I use a Nikon M 450 and a Rodagon G 355 for the 12x20, Kerry THalmann has a list of lenses that will cover 12x20 and above in his web site.

I would not recommend the Lotus, it is overpriced for what it is and from what I have heard not as stable as the Chamonix.

Keith Canham will also make you a 12x20 but is consiedrably more expensive.

WIth Chamonix being such a good deal I would even consider getting a 16x20 or even a 20x24, they are not much more expenisve than the 12x20. Good luck, you will love the ULF format...
