| I was just thinking a bit about photography and beauty the other day. Sometimes, I get in these moods where I wonder if what I do, with my photography, isn't just an exercise in self-gratification - like Solomon says, vanity is like the wind. But, I was reading an article on MSNBC yesterday, about Iraqi women risking their lives to visit a beauty parlor, and it got me to thinking that an appreciation for art and beauty is really a natural part of who we are, and there isn't anything wrong with seeking it; just as these women risk their lives for it. Just my .02c worth,

I always thought creating art has a great deal of self gratification. We first have to like and enjoy what we do. Otherwise how would we know the photograph is a "keeper"?

I think that is so true, I was just looking at it from a negative point of view, rather than the positive point it should be. Sometimes, reality has a way of making you take a hard look at things.

| I think it's true that we do this to satisfy ourselves and some appreciation from others is a nice bonus. I know so many fine photographers whose work is only seen by a select few. Mark

I think that we have to satisfy ourselves before we share our work with others. Because, if we are not satisfied, or pleased with the results we just do not wish to show the photo.
