It seems like a lot of people are favoring either Shen-Hao or Chamonix cameras for a new large format purchase. I wanted to add a third option, which has given me a lot of joy.
Fine Art Photo Supply used to be run by Anthony Guidice. He eventually sold the business to Photographers' Formulary but most of its products remain available. They had the Japanese camera maker Osaka make cameras for them.
It took me a very long time to save up the funds to purchase their 4x5 camera, but I don't regret it a single second. It doesn't have all the movements in the world, but it's a very well manufactured camera, made out of dimensionally stable aged cherry wood, and the price is VERY reasonable. It's gorgeous.

I appreciate all recource information I can get even if I am not in the market for a 4x5" (or5x7) camera at the moment. It sure looks like a great camera. I will bookmark this one. A friend of mine in Oslo got a Chamonix last summer and I got to play a little with at a visit in october. I was impressed, and I consider a Chamonix ULF camera in the near future. Too bad they dont have a descent website and a webstore.

The ArtWorks 4x5 and 5x7 cameras sold by Fine Art Photo Supply are said to be made in Japan by Tachihara. Osaka is a name used by Bromwell Marketing for a line of cameras and lenses that they sell. The Osaka cameras are also said to be by Tachihara. I do not believe that there is a Japanese camera maker named Osaka.

Don't know what to believe, and I don't really care either. My camera is said to come from Japan from the place I purchased it, and it has a name label on it that says 'Osaka'.
I do know that it's a nice camera, and it works really well at a very decent price. The rest is academical.

Folks there is another wood camera maker in hungery, which I looked at and it looks real nice and is priced fair for the market, its the wait time that kills us on getting those camera from over there:
