I just added 4 images to the Gallery from my trip to Colorado. 2 are Digital taken with my new Canon Powershot G9. 2 were taken with my Mamiya 7 II on Fujichrome Velvia 100.

Part of the outgrowth of the trip is that my friend Charles Campbell, the author of the Amphoto Book [i]The Backpacker's Handbook to Photography[/i] and I are starting a Nature Photography Workshop business.

The website is only in preparation and the schedule is only being worked on in a preliminary way.

The classes though intended primarily for digital shooters will be open to film (primarily transparency) shooters. Charlie has gone totally digital, but I intend to have both a digital camera and at least 1 film camera at every class. We will be pushing the new Canon G9 as our choice for a digital camera. Sorry that we have to teach so much digital, but that is most of the market at this point, and we do want to make a success of the business.

Well, I am back. I have some usable images. I will start to send 2 taken with my Mamiya 7II and 2 taken with my new Canon Powershot G9 digital camera. I will try to post the Mamiya images in quite a few weeks after Bill Nordstrom gets his work completed on them. If it is OK with the members I will also post the 2 digital images.

I talked to Rich (naturephoto1) on Friday night about the conference. He had a number of good things to say about it. He is off for several weeks of shooting in Colorado, and will have to wait for his return to hear what he has to say. Hopefully, he will have some new images to post from this trip when he returns.

Thanks Eric, I had not thought about those routes. I appreciate your looking for me, I want to go, but can't afford an almost $1000 fare at the moment. I'm also looking at fly to Las Vegas, the up to Denver via Southwest. I'll let you know what I find.

$610 plus taxes: from OGG. If departing from HNL probably cheaper. I'm not sure of Foto3 dates so just guessed. There is a reason the other airlines went out of business offering fares in the $350 range.

I'm still trying to get a reasonable airfare. Two of the airlines you used to serve Hawaii, Aloha and ATA, have gone out of business, and as a result airfare is sky high. Right now, the cheapest airfare I can find to California (LA) is $900+ (not counting fees and taxes). This compares to a normal fare of around $350 - $400. I'm still hoping to find something reasonable. Since I will no longer have a job at the beginning of next month, I need to be careful about how much I spend on airfare.

I would like to have attended, would be fun meeting some of you, but the first 2 weeks in June is always my "springtime in the rockies" camping/photo trip. So after Memorial day weekend at Estes Park, I disappear into the hills and try to recover from cabin fever.

I wish I could go. My income, (or rather I should say percentage of payments of that income :D), is such that I can't fit it in unfortunately.
Like Robert says, it's important and very fruitful to meet other photographers. Fortunately for me, I have run across quite a few film photographers here in Minnesota that I hang out with regularly. The competition is very stiff, let me tell you. But it is fun to go out camera-geeking together, to look at each others work. It gets you in touch with others along the way and all of a sudden a whole network of contacts has been created.
So if you can afford going - [b]go![/b] It looks like an awesome conference, and if there is a next time I'll start saving now... :)

I hope you do come, it will be worth it. I found out at the APUG conference last year, that just meeting others of like minds is of tremendous value; not only will these new friends encourage you, but they will inspire you with their work. Don't underestimate the power of meeting people.

I am tentatively planning, I've marked the dates off on the calendar at work already.

It's a very easy trip for me either flying or driving.

I have not registered yet, need to think a bit as to whether I'll get something out of it or if it will be esoteric and way
over my head.

I haven't decided on dates yet. I need to find out what Rich Nelridge wants to do - we are going to split a room. Also, I may try to do a few days in Sydney before then, which will cut back on the time I have available.
