No worries Tom. There are a bunch of changes coming this evening. I was going to update last night, but was right in the middle of something and wanted to finish it first.

He he... I wondered what you meant by that... apparently, I don't type all that well. Nikon N*) is supposed to read N80 (pretty funny, actually) I don't know... I think I like it. :D

Hi Tom,

Sorry, it is that little check box just above the "Upload Image" button. It refers to the guildlines in the Terms of Use page - I didn't want to make it a popup, since most people will abide by the spirit of the site, and it would just be irritating.

BTW, you will have to click it anyway before the site will let you save the image to the database.

A lot of changes to the site this evening.

First, I have uploaded the initial version of the gallery. As indicated, it is still very much a work in progress. However, I will be updating the site again tomorrow evening, and probably several times in the coming week, to get the gallery fully operational.

Some notes about the changes this evening:

1.) The gallery pages are now up, and you can browse images that have been uploaded so far. Please note, you can upload images, but you can't delete or edit them yet.

2.) You can't mark images as "Favorites" yet.

3.) Image filtering doesn't work yet (left hand menu on the Member Gallery page).

4.) You must be logged on for Image Comments to be saved.

5.) There is no rating mechanism for the Critique Gallery as yet.

6.) There is no means of keeping track of how many images a member has uploaded.

7.) Under the Forum message there is a new submenu "Recent Posts" containing menu items for "Posts Since Last Visit", "Posts Added Today" and "Posts Since Last Week". This allows you to get latest posts from anywhere in the site. Note: it doesn't appear on the menu when you go into the forum - an oversight, I will have corrected soon.

To upload images:

1.) You must be logged on.

2.) Go to Member Central, and select Upload Image.

3.) Click on "I have read..." and browse for the image you want to upload. The image must be a jpg.

4.) Click the "Upload Image" button. After it is uploaded you should see a thumbnail of it to your right.

5.) Fill out the remainder of the fields in "Image Details". Note: Gallery, Title, Media Type, and Primary Category are required, all others are optional.

6.) Click on "Save Image". Your image should not appear in the Gallery you selected, and you should see a listing for it in "Manage My Images".

Please understand, the gallery is still very much a work in progress. I have put it up so I can test uploading images over the Internet (rather than my workstation). You are welcome to use it, provide feedback and criticism, just be aware that not all the functionality works yet. As I have indicated, there are more changes coming, more fixes, as soon as I can get them done.

The gallery is coming along quite nicely, I'll try to get together a few screen shots later today. I think everyone will be happy.

I'm off to a job fair tomorrow, and then an interview on Thursday. There is also a good possibility that I may be traveling to the mainland soon. I was asked this morning if I could travel to a client's site - I don't know where or when yet.

Member Gallery Update

Hi All,

I thought I would bring you up to date about the Member Gallery.

The gallery is getting closer to being a reality. I am planning on putting up a first version this coming Sunday. The site may be down off and on throught the day Sunday. The gallery is no way feature complete, but I am at the stage that I need to test it in a real Internet environment. You are free to add images to the gallery if you would like, but keep in mind that the gallery may change, based upon technical considerations and upon your comments. The first version of the gallery will not have any of the filtering capabilities working, but you will be able to upload and look at images. The image comments may not be working fully, but I'll see how it goes over the next couple of days.

About how the gallery will work. I am designing the gallery so that each member will be able to upload a total of 25 images (at first), of any size. Only 5 images per day will be allowed to be uploaded. Note: these restrictions will not be in place for the first beta. Only forum members will be able to make comments about any image.

The reason this is taking so long, is the gallery is a fairly complex and extensive undertaking. In addition to the gallery you will see a number of other changes as well. The FAQ has been moved, replaced by "Member Central" - this is where members will manage the images they upload, as well as other functions (to be determined).

Your thoughts are welcome. So, keep watch and check back next Monday to see what is new.
