My camera is said to come from Japan from the place I purchased it, and it has a name label on it that says 'Osaka'.

I do know that it's a nice camera, and it works really well at a very decent price. The rest is academical.

- Thomas

RE: 4x5 and 5x7 alternative

The ArtWorks 4x5 and 5x7 cameras sold by Fine Art Photo Supply are said to be made in Japan by Tachihara. Osaka is a name used by Bromwell Marketing for a line of cameras and lenses that they sell. The Osaka cameras are also said to be by Tachihara. I do not believe that there is a Japanese camera maker named Osaka.
Bertilsson (1/6/2008)
It seems like a lot of people are favoring either Shen-Hao or Chamonix cameras for a new large format purchase. I wanted to add a third option, which has given me a lot of joy.

Fine Art Photo Supply used to be run by Anthony Guidice. He eventually sold the business to Photographers' Formulary but most of its products remain available. It sure looks like a great camera. I will bookmark this one. A friend of mine in Oslo got a Chamonix last summer and I got to play a little with at a visit in october. I was impressed, and I consider a Chamonix ULF camera in the near future. Too bad they dont have a descent website and a webstore.
4x5 and 5x7 alternative

It seems like a lot of people are favoring either Shen-Hao or Chamonix cameras for a new large format purchase. It doesn't have all the movements in the world, but it's a very well manufactured camera, made out of dimensionally stable aged cherry wood, and the price is VERY reasonable. It's gorgeous.
More information here:
http://www.fineartphotosupply.com/workscamera.htm

I am not affiliated with Photographers' Formulary or Anthony Guidice in any way.
