The tones are just fantastic, and I think you did a great job keeping the reflections down to a minimum.

RE: The Harley Diaries

Ok here is another one. And yes I did use a huge white tent in front and a large black backdrop. It was fun.

RE: The Harley Diaries

Yes, I hope Eric posts more images in this series. You do have to be careful shooting stuff like that, sometimes even resorting to backdrops and black, white or grey gobos around the camera to give form to the reflections. It's a lot of fun working that kind of image,eh Eric?

RE: The Harley Diaries

Eric, that is really awesome. One of my greatest interests in photography is detail shots of vintage car craftsmanship, and that's where I personally focus a lot of my time. I'm really impressed by your work here because one of my greatest challenges is to hide my own reflection in the image, with all the paint and chrome. It is really difficult, and in some cases imposible! You have really motivated me for the upcoming car season here in the northeast, when I can really get working again :)

RE: The Harley Diaries

Wow!!!! That is a stunning image. I can see how that is going to be difficult to photograph, there are a lot of reflective surfaces there, but I see you have pulled it off quite nicely on this image. I'll bet that the entire series will be something special - perhaps, you can submit it to Lenswork (I would even subscribe to see it).

The Harley Diaries

I have begun a project I call the Harley Diaries. I am doing detail photography on a friends Harley. Since it's so shiny the technical challenges are not insignificant to say the least. So far I have about 20 images. Here is one to share. This is a scan of a quick print I did prior to a meeting. Nothing fancy in the way of darkroom work. When I am finished shooting then I will start to do some serious darkroom stuff on these images. Shot with Linhof Tech IV, 210mm lens and PL100 film.
