Being a landscape guy, that top one just speaks to me - the way the sun is streaming through the cloulds, and the snow in the foreground. I would loved to have been there as well. I'm sure that the print just sings - it is too bad that scanners can't capture that with justice.

The Caffenol print is impressive as well, I'm not surprised that you would get a lotof positive comments about it.

Thanks for sharing,
Thanks, Robert. This was printed using Caffenol as a paper developer on some very old Kodak Polymax paper... the effect is other worldly to say the least.

Cheers,
Tom, on Point Pelee, Canada

RE: Show us your favorite images

Thanks guys. The two little girls are my daughters many moons ago. The smallest one in the photo made me a grand dad just over two years ago. This photo was taken while we were living in the Canadian maritimes. Location is near the Hunts Point - Nova Scotia, government wharf area. I think the date was around 1987. Good old Kodachrome 64, Nikon F2.

RE: Show us your favorite images

I agree, the shot with the two kids is great.

RE: Show us your favorite images
eric rose (4/19/2008)
When I click on the mountain all I get is a dialog box asking for a URl. I particulary like the one with the two little girls. I take it they are family. What is important with these type of images, is how the impact the photographer - the public may not care, but we do. I'll have to make a more concerted effort to use FireFox; I mostly use IE, and sometimes just don't think to use anything else. I'll have to find out why the difference in upload; the IE upload is actually another webpage, which it looks like the javascript that FireFox uses can't display. Not sure whether that is a limitation of FireFox or an extension that IE uses. Regardless, I'll see what I can find out.

I'm working on getting the gallery, most of the work is actually in the backend part; allowing users to manage their images, as well as building the site to manage how much a user is allowed to upload. That is why you don't see much going on in that page. The big issue has just been time, right now I only have a couple of hours a day to devote to working on this, however, I'm going to be taking a couple of weeks off at the beginning of May, and I'm planning on getting the new gallery up then.

There are a number of other new features I haven't uploaded yet, like a new menu system that integrates the forum with the rest of the site - I'm planning on uploading this on Sunday evening, my time.

RE: Show us your favorite images

I have done some experimenting and I get the image dialog box when I use IE but not when I use Firefox. Another none standard IE code I suppose. Oh well I will just use the attacment thing then as I refuse to use IE.

RE: Show us your favorite images

When I click on the mountain all I get is a dialog box asking for a URl. I for one think it is a great image, the tones are absolutely wonderful, and you are right, it has a very light feel to it. To be honest, this type of image makes me want to walk through the same building, and see the same sky, and makes me wonder about the people that built it. Thanks for sharing.

RE: Show us your favorite images

Gary, great shot. Robert, I like it...shame that some people would think it was photoshop that made this. It is so depressing to think that we are loosing the patience and care it takes to make photographs.

For mine I am in the same boat as Robert, my favorite image is one that apparently no one likes and could not sell to save my life. I just sold the first print of the series after 4 years of trying to sell it.

I guess the tones and tonal transitions do not translate well into digital, the print feels so airy and vibrant, in a monitor looks boring.

RE: Show us your favorite images

Wow, that is absolutely great Gary. I love the tones and the grain. No wonder it is a favorite image of yours, and a great way to remember your brother. A nice boat ride out and we were exploring the old brick fort that was built at the end of the Civil War by the Confederacy and never put into service. This was my favorite shot from that day, my brother posed for me to get what I wanted. The 35mm film was underdeveloped but had detail so it gets printed on high contrast paper. The print got me Photo of the Year from my local camera club, Cobb Photographic Society, and everyone seems to like it. I love the way the light filters in under the arches in these old forts. We have another one of a similar design here in Georgia called Fort Pulaski that my wife and I like to visit any time we are near the area.

Show us your favorite images

How about showing us your favorite images, and telling a little bit about the story behind it?

Here is mine:

This image was taken along the Murray River in the state of Victoria, Australia, near the town of Echuca. I remember I was rushing looking for a site to setup for the sunset, and stumbled upon this spot. What I like about this image is that it reminds me of the peace I felt sitting along the river, hearing the birds singing, and remembering the color of the light, as the sun went down. It may not be my best image, but it is my favorite.
