Hi Everyone,

I wanted to let everyone here know that that my friend Charles Campbell, the author of the Amphoto book The Backpacker's Handbook to Photography and I are starting a new Workshop business that we are hoping to have underway for 2009. Charles has 20 years of experience in Workshops and I have some experience as well.

We anticipate advertising in Outdoor Photographer Magazine and also through and at the meeting for NANPA (North American Nature Photographers Association) in February, 2009.

The name of the business is Nature Photo Workshops and the link to the website which is only in preliminary form as Charlie works on it is:

http://www.nature-photo-workshops.com/Welcome.html

The workshop locations are to be all over the US but locations and dates are at best tentative at this point.

Though the business is and will be more oriented toward Digital Photography, than film based photography, film shooters will be welcome. Charlie has switched entirely to digital, but I expect to be carrying a digital camera and at least one film based camera to every workshop class. Both of us are using the new Canon point and shoot Powershot G9 as our digital cameras. I expect to be carrying either my Mamiya 7 II or one of my Leica R series cameras as well. The 4 X 5 cameras may also be brought for specific workshops.

We already have a fair number of sponsors including Gitzo/Bogen, Kirk Enterprises, and the Sierra Club. We hope to be able to make donations from our business back to the Sierra Club and the Nature Conservancy.

Please forgive us for working so heavily with digital equipment but we would like to make the business a success and that is where most interest lies at this point. We will be explaining things regarding Photoshop CS3 which will not only be valuable to digital photographers, but also to film shooters that scan their work, particularly from transparencies.

Rich,

Thanks for passing this along to us. I wish you and Charlie well on your new business. I understand the need to do digital in your business; that is just the way the business is these days. Hopefully, you can get enough film shooters to make it somewhat enjoyable. Feel free to post your workshop schedule in the Forum Calendar, and let us know of workshops you think we might be interested in, in this sub-forum.

Also, if you and Charlie ever want to do a workshop here in Hawaii, let me know. I'll see how I can help out.

An old Hasidic story says we should wear a coat with two pockets in order to receive God's message. In one pocket, the message is: "You are nothing but one of billions of grains of sand in the universe." In the other, the message is: "I made the universe just for you."

Hi Derek,

Thanks for the input. I will try to put you on the mailing list once we have one.

I will keep everyone posted as to when things are more definite for the Workshop locations, dates, and when to look for our ads.

Rich

This is an update and a correction for the link to our new website:

http://www.nature-photo-workshops.com/Nature_Photo_Workshops/Welcome.html

We are making our final plans for our workshop schedule shortly (need to make some tweaks and minor changes). We will be making arrangements for advertising in Outdoor Photographer the print magazine as well as the online version.

Also, we intend to participate at the NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association) annual meeting Feb. 18-21, 2009 - Albuquerque, NM.
