In my list of bookmarked websites, this one is listed with the description "Home for Photographers Who Choose to Use Film". I'm sure it's not intentional, but I always find this a bit humorous as it sounds like we have been gently herded into a safe, well-guarded place where we can't hurt ourselves, and where others won't be bothered by our interminable arguments about pyro versus Rodinal. I haven't been able to come up with a better alternative but I was wondering whether others might have had the same thought.

I'm open to other suggestions. I always thought of that as simply a description indicating a choice on our parts. In other words, we choose to use film, not because we are forced to, but becuase we prefer it over digital. Sure, digital has its time and place, but film has a different feel to it.

"Home for Photographers Who Choose to Use Film".

Well I like it...

I think the idea is for us to avoid being bothered by endless discussions about raw, jpeg, bitmaps, megapixels, etc. There are countless digital photography sites for that - even general photography sites that hadn't committed one way or the other are now dominated by digital discussions, often with film considered only as a stop gap "until digital backs become more affordable". I think film and traditional methods have more to offer than that, and appreciate that this website shares that sentiment.

Me... I like it.

Even though I have spent my entire working career in the arts, the choice to use film marked a turning point in my growth as an artist. From the moment I found myself weighing the options between digital and film photography, it just felt right, and to this day I continue to learn new things every time I take up my cameras. Does it matter to me that film photography is more connected with the past than the future... that I'm not really learning anything new? Well, yes... it does, and that is perhaps a part of its allure. To me, I am learning an art that has proven its value... one that need not be abandoned because something new has come along. I know that others are as passionate about digital photography. I am glad for them. There are many websites devoted to digital photography. Let there be a few that are as dedicated to film as well. These are not incompatible arts; they are simply different arts.

Cheers,
Tom

I was almost at the stage of shutting down my darkroom. Not to concentrate on digital photography but to find other ways of spending my creative energies. When I found this site it was like a breath of fresh air! So I have now started to restock my darkroom and have been printing old negs with a new approach and renewed interest. Yes the magic of photography is with me again and I love it. I don't think you should change  anything about the site. How it is, is what attracted me here!

Thanks, I appreciate the vote of confidence. This site is, and will continue to focus exclusively on film based photography.
