Ran across this article this afternoon, I tried this once, many years ago, but never got the hang of it.

"How to hand-colour your photos

I recently had a conversation with Bob Keefer – a talented photographer who has decided to hang on to some traditional techniques in a world which is accelerating at full speed toward better, faster, stronger… His party trick is impressive: Take a black-and-white photograph, and colour them. By hand.

Creating gorgeous, real-yet-unreal photo-based art which redefines how you’ll think about photography and digital retouching? Obviously, I had to catch up with Bob to see what, how – and perhaps, most importantly – why…"

"Fujifilm remains true to its heritage and to the acknowledged superior image quality delivered by professional photographic film products." -- Fuji Press Release

An old Hasidic story says we should wear a coat with two pockets in order to receive God's message. In one pocket, the message is: "You are nothing but one of billions of grains of sand in the universe." In the other, the message is: "I made the universe just for you."

It took me a while to get around to reading the article, because I already shoot color, after all. But it really is kind of facinating, and I like the look he achieved. Seeing what he's done, I now believe I've seen this kind of art before, but can't quite place where. It's back in the fuzzy past somewhere. (That by itself is alluring to me.)

I can see myself trying this someday, if color film disappears in my lifetime, and maybe even if it doesn't.

Excellent article.
