Don't know if it's too late, but Rodinal and Plus-X is pretty magical. I've tried it with both semi stand and stand development, and I really enjoy what I'm getting from it.
I expose the film at box speed, then I develop according to the following regimen:
Presoak for 3 min
Mix Rodinal 1+200 at 70*F, use water that has been sitting for 24 hours so there isn't any aeration left. Or boil water and cool off again for similar effect.
Agitate continuously for first 90 seconds, rap tank 10 times on the counter top (with a towel in between) to dislodge any new air bubbles that formed during agitation. Then let sit for the remainder of an hour.
Stop with water. Fix and wash as usual.
It gives me extremely sharp negatives with a beautiful and well defined grain. Great midtone separation, shadow detail and extremely compensated highlights.

This method works well for nearly any film, but I've found Plus-X to look extra good for some reason.

Anyway, I hope someone can benefit from this.

Try Rodinal, it works vey well with films like TriX. Or start making your own developers. Steve Anchell's "The Darkroom Cookbook" is a good place to start. You'll also learn alot.

Good info guys. It's been a while since i looked at this post, but since then I am still using TMAX developer with Tri-X. I've been working on some projects and it's just comfortable for me for now. I would like to check out "The Darkroom Cookbook" one of these days. This craft is so interesting in that you can really learn so many things about each different aspect....composition, exposure, development, printing, mounting, framing......then there's the art of it, each piece a skill in itself and practiced with the most care and attention to detail, but so important in the whole process....fun stuff
