Arriving very late on this thread, but I'll add my two cents anyway.
I use a loupe most of the time, depending on what kind of movements I am employing. When I set up, I hang a lanyard with my meter and loupe on the rear rail. My first focus check, though, is with a set of +2.75 reading glasses. These give me a good view of the whole glass and I can get my basic focusing done. If I know I will be using movements, I grab the loupe right away. The glasses get me close, but I don't trust them for this kind of critical focusing.
